Ridges and Bobbles Backscrubber Strap - stop #2 on the Spa Basket CAL

I present to you the Ridges and Bobbles Backscrubber Strap, the 2nd free crochet pattern in the tranquil and relaxing #SpaBasketCAL ! This event will run from 8/30/16 through 12/7/16, and features 12 patterns from 12 amazing designers. The patterns will combine to make a lovely spa basket, perfect for gifting. YARN
Lion Brand Kitchen cotton (or comparable #4/worsted weight cotton): approximately 400-450 yards.

MATERIALS
Sizes H/8(5mm) and J/10 (6mm) crochet hooks, stitch markers, scissors, tapestry/yarn needle, measuring tape

DIFFICULTY
Easy

SIZE(S)
One size. Finished measurements: approximately 24" long (not including straps) and 5" wide.

GAUGE
(With cotton yarn and H hook) 15dcs x 12 rows of R2-R5 repeats= 4"x4" square

STITCH GUIDE
ch(s) - chain(s), sc - single crochet, dc - double crochet, st(s) - stitch(es),  FLO - front loop only, BLO - back loop only,  sl st - slip stitch

SPECIAL STITCHES

NOTES
  • Turning chain only counts when specified.

Ridges side (with H hook)
Ch 23
Row 1: (right side) (ch3 does not count as dc) dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across (20 sts), do not turn
Row 2: (working left to right) ch1, rev sc in FLO of each dc across, sl st in turning chain (does not count as st) (20sts), no turn
Row 3: ch3, dc in BLO of each dc from two rows below this one (working in the remaining loop behind the rev sc sts) across (20sts), no turn
Rows 4-72: repeat R2 & R3 alternating (ending on a R2 repeat)
Row 73: repeat R3, fasten off and weave in ends.

Bobbles side (with H hook)
Ch 18
Row 1: (wrong side) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across (17sts), turn
Row 2: ch1 (does NOT count as st), sc in first st, *eesc in next st, sc in next st*, repeat from * - * across (17sts), turn
Row 3: ch1, sc in each st across (17sts), turn
Row 4: ch1 (does NOT count), sc in first TWO sts, *eesc in next st, sc in next st*, repeat from * - * across til one st remains, sc in last st (17sts), turn
Row 5: ch1, sc in each st across (17sts), turn
Repeat Rows 2-5 til piece measures approximately 23 ½” (ending on a Row 3 OR Row 5 repeat), fasten off and weave in ends.

FINISHING

Assemble (work ALL sts through BOTH pieces)
(With J hook)
Stack the two pieces together with right sides facing out. Hold piece with short end at the top. Attach yarn w/sl st at upper right corner. Sc in same st, sc evenly across short end to corner (17sts), ch3 at corner, sc in same st, turn piece 90 degrees clockwise (counterclockwise for left handed), sc evenly across long end to corner (72sts), ch3 at corner, sc in same st, turn piece 90 degrees clockwise (counterclockwise for left handed), sc evenly across short end to corner (17sts), ch3 at corner, sc in same st, turn piece 90 degrees clockwise (counterclockwise for left handed), sc evenly across long end to corner (72sts), ch3 at corner, sc in st where you attached the yarn at beginning of this step, sl st in first sc, fasten off and weave in ends.

Straps
(With J hook)
  • ch60, feed chain through corner loops on one end <see pic A>, join w/sl st in first ch to form ring, pull chain through nearest loop til the join is approximately 1/2" from loop, fold chain in half (creates a double handle), work 50 scs AROUND doubled up handle <see pic B> til approximately 1/2" from other loop, fasten off and weave in ends.
  • repeat on 2nd short end.
